Google Set to Release iOS Maps App

Google designs to release its much-awaited iOS Maps app tonight, according to causes familiar with the issue. (Update: Here it is.) The app should be a welcome supplement for numerous iPhone users, who have been unhappy with an Apple-made replacement. Google Maps had been pre-installed on the iPhone since the smartphone first launched, but the app was rebound in September with the debut of iOS 6.

The large-scale cause for the change? Google had declined to provide voice navigation for Apple’s chart app, amidst other characteristics, after it had made important investment in construction out turn-by-turn directions for its own mapping goods on Android and in another place. although, Apple’s replacement mapping app was apparently not prepared for prime time when it commenced, and it continues to lead persons astray and lack significant characteristics such as transit main headings.

Google did not directly reply to a request for commentary. A spokesperson for apple fruit declined to commentary. apple fruit CEO Tim prepare food formally acknowledged to users for Mapplegate, and since then both wireless programs head Scott Forstall and maps supervisor Rich Williamson have been ousted. meantime, Google execs such as Eric Schmidt had hinted that a replacement app was in the works but documented that it would have to be approved by Apple. Just the fact that the Google charts will be available for iOS doesn’t signify every person will use it; the app will still be vying with Apple’s competitor, which is installed by default. But at least a couple of holdouts will be happy they can now eventually upgrade to iOS 6.
